The most amazing thing about hydroponics is that with the correct set up, you don't need a lot of footprint or space to cultivate your crops.
What I used here a type of Deepwater system where the plant is constantly submerged underwater. There are ways to give the roots more aeration opportunities such as the an ebb and flow method but I opted to use a submergible pump to provide that instead (see the green tube at the back).
As you can see in the picture, I was ambitious and tried to grow all the commonly used herbs, both herbaceous and woody. It was a big mistake as the woody ones were quickly susceptible to a fungus infestation which set on the woody parts of the rosemary and thyme plants.
Eventually my mint plants succumbed to the blight as well, leaving me with a resilient bunch of basil which I quickly grew more cuttings from and had to set-up my own custom planting solution which utilized a bucket from IKEA and clay beads.
So from top to bottom, "1st Aquaculture" Tank, 1st Deep Water Terrestrial Plant Hydroponics System, 2nd Custom Deep Water Terrestrial Plant Hydroponics System.
While it was sad that I could not maintain a mixed culture of plants, it was still a good learning point for what was to come.
