2nd Farm: My First Aquaculture Farm
Instead of trying to upscale a pure hydroponics system with jusst plants, I dived right into creating my miniature aquaculture system. Again I went to IKEA to source for a good size "tank" which was really a clear storage box and a shelf unit which was supposed to serve as a growing area for my plants.
Unfortunately I needed the shelf space for all the electrical wiring and the filters. I also realized that me trying to create a constant rain system with the filter system at the top and plants in the middle layer would kill the plants as the constant wet leaves would promote microbial growth.
I learnt a lot about stocking density and fish behavior (i.e. "Tank Boss") while running this system and as you can see I just pulled the growing plants from my bottom most farming system from my first farm set up and half submerged them into the water.
Initially it was challenging for the plants to get used to less clean and nutritious waters but soon after I believe they developed and co-habited with beneficial bacteria in the water to flourish.
As you can see on the right I installed an auto-feeder for the fish so everything was pretty much hands off after fussing with the initial set-up.
